BOKO HARAM

Boko Haram is a terrorist organization with its roots in northeastern Nigeria, linked to insurgency stemming from north Cameroon, Chad and Niger.

"Boko Haram" is a Hausa name which translates roughly as "Western education is forbidden", while the real Arabic name translates as "The Congregation of the People of Tradition for Proselytism and Jihad".

The sect was founded in 2002 by the late Mohammed Yusuf who was captured and executed by the Nigerian security forces in 2009. Until the government clamped down on the sect’s activities in 2009, the operations conducted by the sect were more or less peaceful. Since Abubakar Shekau, a former deputy to Yusuf’s era, violent attacks have escalated in terms of both frequency and intensity.

The sect seeks to establish a "pure" Islamic state ruled by Sharia, putting a stop to what it deems Westernization. It proposes that interaction with the Western world is forbidden, and also supports opposition to the Muslim establishment and the government of Nigeria.

The group is known for attacking Christians, Muslim clerics and government targets, as well as for bombing churches, mosques, schools and police stations. The group is also notorious for kidnappings.

The violence linked to the Boko Haram insurgency has resulted in an estimated 20,000 deaths between 2002 and 2015.

On November 13, 2013, the United States government designated the group a terrorist organization. On May 22, 2014, the United Nations Security Council added Boko Haram to its list of designated al-Qaeda entities, bringing "funding, travel and weapons sanctions" against the terrorist group.

On the same day Boko Haram was officially declared a terrorist group affiliated to al-Qaeda and al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. International sanctions including assets' freeze, travel ban and arms embargo are imposed against the Islamist extremist group.

It was reported in August 2013 that Abubakar Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram, had been shot and deposed by members of his sect, but he survived.

He has taken responsibility for the April 2014 kidnapping of over 200 school girls in Chibok, Borno state, Nigeria.

Funding sources for Boko Haram are not certain, but is believed to be partially funded by bank robberies and by other Islamist groups.

- A fighter jet belonging to the Nigerian Air Force recently bombed a camp for internally displaced persons in Borno state.

- About nine different rights organisations have secured the assistance Femi Falana to sue the federal government and the Nigerian Air Force.

Just days after an aircraft belonging to the Nigeria Air Force allegedly mistakenly bombed an internally displaced person’s camp in Rann, Borno state killing scores of victims of the Boko Haram insurgents, nine rights groups have sued the federal government.

Boko Haram attacks Borno again, scores feared dead

Attackers believed to be Boko Haram members have killed unknown number of people and injured several others in an ambush on motorists in Borno state on Saturday, January 28.

Suspected Boko Haram fighters have reportedly attacked motorists on a popular Borno road.

Vanguard reports that the ambush occurred along Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road between old Nigerian Telecommunications (NITEL) mast called Dogon Wire and deserted Bullabulin village.

The report quotes a driver Mallam Aliyu Yau as claiming that he managed to escape with some of his passengers but several others were not so lucky.

“It is unfortunate that our road is not safe today (Saturday morning) as some Boko Haram terrorists laid ambush on the road. It is regrettable that during the ambush and exchange of gunfire between military escorts and the terrorists, many passengers took to their heels into the bush, and most of them fell victim in the cross fire..

“I cannot ascertain the number of those killed as I managed to escape with my passengers. But I learnt that scores of people were killed or injured.”

The Borno State Police Command has yet to confirm the attack neither have military authorities issued any statement on the attack.Meanwhile, statistics have shown that January 2017 has been full of deaths for Nigerians.While it is true that people die daily, the deaths recorded below occurred on a scale that affected the country as a whole.

WAS JESUS A SON OF GOD OR GOD HIMSELF........................................................? THIS IS A BIG QUESTION THAT I WOULD LIKE ALL THE READERS TO DELIBRATE ON AND GIVE THEIR REASONS

JESUS AS MESSENGER AND PROPHET OF GOD

Jesus was the last prophet in Israel. He was called the son of God, an expression that was in common use in scripture to mean ‘man of God’metaphorically and in no single instance did it connote God.

 Nowhere in the Gospels or the Epistles is it said that Jesus referred to himself as God or implied that he was God. 

The expression, Lord, was applied to him but there is no evidence that those who made use of this expression with reference to him believed, or meant to convey, that he was God. It was used as a synonym for master.


Muslims believed Jesus is messenger as revealed in the Qur’an and Bible itself where Jesus prove himself he was only a messenger of God but not God.

 Quran stated:


"…The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of God, and His word (command) which He conveyed unto Mary..." (Quran 4:171)


The word ‘MESSENGER’ according to Oxford dictionary is; n. a person who carries a message.


So we will see below where Jesus clarified himself from debris of false believe that he was a messenger sent by God Almighty and not God.


1. “Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who # SENT me.” (John 7:16)


2. “Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that HAS SENT me, and to finish his work.” (John 4:34)


3. “Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he #SENT me” (john 8:42)


4. “I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath #SENT me.” (John 5:30)



5. “For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which #SENT me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.” ( John 12:49)


From the above references if Jesus is God he wouldn’t have been sent by another God but he would just come by himself. But these prove him he was just a messenger like any other messenger that God sent before him, e g, Moses, Jacob, Abraham, etc.

JESUS AS PROPHET

There is no language where God and prophet are synonymous term.

 God cannot be prophet. We read in the same Bible Jesus was referred to as a prophet:


1. “And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a # prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:” 

(Luke 24:19)


2. “And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great #prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people” 

(Luke 7:16)


3. “But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a #prophet.” (Math 21:46)


4. “But Jesus said unto them, A #prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house” (Mark 6:4)



So Jesus was no more than a messenger of God.

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state was hosted in Abuja by former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode and his wife, Precious Chikwendu on Friday, January 27.

Fani-Kayode posted photos of the meeting, with this caption: "Wonderful time with our dearest friend and brother Governor Ayo Fayose, a man who has the heart of a warrior and a lion.

Vanguard reports that the market is located inside or beside the G. Agofere Park along Sokoto road, Onitsha.

The cause of the fire is not yet established but the market is popular for Chinese jeans and other casual wears.

American President, Donald Trump signed an executive order closing US borders to all refugees for a period of at least four months and temporarily banning all travellers from half a dozen countries, regardless of whether they have already been issued visas, on Friday evening.

According to The Telegraph, While signing the order, Trump said: "We want to ensure that we are not admitting into our country the very threats our soldiers are fighting overseas.

"We only want to admit those into our country who will support our country and love deeply our people."

Trump has received several backlashes from prominent Americans including Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, over his order to ban Muslims immigrants from entering America.

There were immediate reports of travellers who had been issued visas for travel being turned away or told not to board flights because of the ban.

Mohammed Al Rawi, a graduate of California State University and former journalist with the Los Angeles Times, said his father had been hauled off a flight in Qatar as a direct result of Mr Trump's decision.

Al Rawi wrote on Facebook that: "My 71 year old dad is in Qatar boarding LAX flight to come visit us and and he's being sent back to Iraq. Some US official told him that Trump canceled all visas."

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, wrote in a post on Saturday that he was "concerned" about the impact of the orders and that he would be working with Fwd.US, a charity he supports, to develop protections for child immigrants brought to the US at a young age by their parents.

Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook wall: “My great grandparents came from Germany, Austria and Poland. Priscilla's parents were refugees from China and Vietnam. The United States is a nation of immigrants, and we should be proud of that.

“Like many of you, I'm concerned about the impact of the recent executive orders signed by President Trump.

“We need to keep this country safe, but we should do that by focusing on people who actually pose a threat. Expanding the focus of law enforcement beyond people who are real threats would make all Americans less safe by diverting resources, while millions of undocumented folks who don't pose a threat will live in fear of deportation.

“We should also keep our doors open to refugees and those who need help. That's who we are. Had we turned away refugees a few decades ago, Priscilla's family wouldn't be here today.”

Meanwhile, former US Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, has vowed to convert to Muslim if Trump should go ahead to create an Islamic database and ban Muslim migrants from entering the country.

Albright who is the first female Secretary of State under the administration of former President Bill Clinton tweeted on Wednesday, January 26 that: "I was raised Catholic, became Episcopalian & found out later my family was Jewish.”

“We are reviewing and rebranding the party, it is only the judgment in Port Harcourt we are waiting for and we are praying for a fair judgment that will revive the hope of the people.

“Justice should be done and seen to be done in a manner that the whole world will see that the judiciary is doing the right thing.

“If you eliminate or encumber the opposition, nobody will be safe. It is for the interest of Nigeria that there is opposition.

He advised his fellow party members to criticise wisely and to also come up with alternative policy options. He warned party members against blackmail.

Makarfi said that the party will reconcile on a strong foundation, stressing that the PDP would avoid loopholes in its reconciliation drive.

Singer Harrysong was yesterday, January 27 arrested by Five Star Music over charges of fraud and breach of contract.

Five Star Music label has now issued a statement on why they are taking legal actions against Harrysong. The label also advised the general public to tread with caution and desist from transacting any business with Mr. Harry Tare Okri.

Here is the statement;

It has become both imperative and necessary to state our position on the ongoing misguided and fallacious news making the rounds in the media between our esteemed record label and Mr. Harry Tare Okri.

Sometime in 2008 when Mr. Harry first approached our record label for a music contract, we immediately declined the request when we found out that he had a subsisting contract with one Mr. Kevin Luciano of ‘Question Mark Entertainment Label’.

All efforts then by Mr. Harry to influence our management proved abortive as our position was maintained on grounds of equity, fairness and professionalism.

For further avoidance of doubts on the true facts of the present situation, our management has decided to officially set the records straight, because of negative and pervasive influence being foisted on the psyche of our numerous and well meaning fans.

Our first encounter with Mr. Harry was sometime in 2008 when he approached our management for a music contract. As stated above, according to our findings at that time, his contract with ‘Question Mark Entertainment Record Label’ was still subsisting and valid.

Obviously we declined when we found out that Mr. Harry’s plans were ill orchestrated against his employers, by walking out on them without fulfilling the obligations clearly contained in his running contract with them.

When Harry’s employers (Question Mark Entertainment) got wind of his frantic efforts to desert his contract, a stern and official public statement was issued against Mr. Harry and a certain clause establishing his existing contract was clearly published for full consumption by the general public.

3a. The tussle continued between Harry and his employers till sometime in 2014 when Harry once again approached us, this time very desperate.

We opened preliminary discussions with him but demanded an official document from his former employers relieving him of any obligation or liability with regards to his contract with them.

3b. Our move to do things right and professionally with Mr. Harry earned us a Twenty Million Naira Legal Suit (N20,000,000.00) from Mr. Kevin Luciano of Question Mark Entertainment (Records are there for confirmation). We were joined as co-defendants with Mr. Harry.

Juxtaposing the above with what is going on now, it is quite unfortunate because “Good intentions counts as much as good actions, and the person seeking to do good is as good as someone who actually does it.

3c. Knowing the vulnerability of Mr. Harry on the impending legal suit, we solicited the help of certain well respected individuals in the Music industry to wade into the matter, one of which was our dear veteran Daddy Showkey.

Mr. Luciano having found out our intention from inception to act in good faith, agreed to withdraw his suit against Mr. Harry and our company BUT, not without consequential and settlement fees of Five Million Naira (N5,000,000.00, records available for verification).

We paid this amount solely without Mr. Harry contributing a dime!

It is often said that “When people sense that someone else is vulnerable, they tend to attack, for when the calf falls, the knives come out”.

However, in Mr. Harry’s vulnerable situation, we did nothing of the sort. Rather, we whole heartedly bought all his liability off Question Mark Entertainment Label, and welcomed him as a family into Five Star Music Label, a genuine gesture and decision we are all regretting this present day.

Because we are known for running our affairs professionally and legally, we signed a three year contract with Mr. Harry and certain conditions and obligations were specifically and properly spelled out apart from the terms of the contract.

Most important of these were his obligations to our Music Label, which amongst others include:

- That he must deliver at least, three (3) full music albums on or before the expiration of the first term of his three year contract, otherwise the label solely reserves the right either to rescind or extend the contract.

These conditions were never met.

- While in the employment of the Five Star Music Label, he must not engage himself in anyway whatsoever, whether directly, by proxy or through a third party in any Music or recording business other than that of Five Star Music. This condition was also repeatedly breached as Mr. Harry has been releasing music, going on tours locally and internationally without our consent or paying the agreed percentage to the label.

Five Star Music wishes to state categorically that this reckless breach of contract by Mr. Harry stands contrary to our company’s work ethics and will therefore be pursued to a logical conclusion using the full instrument of the law.

In setting the records straight, let it be known that before now, the label refrained from instituting any legal actions against him for his blatant breach of contract, just because he was still considered as part of Five Star Music family.

However, his posture as clearly manifested through his lawyers whom have continued to write and make all kinds of assertions and threats to the label necessitated our immediate response for the general public to know the truth and inherent facts of the story. For it is said, that facts speaks for themselves.

We therefore advice the general public to tread with caution and desist from transacting any business with Mr. Harry Tare Okri, as same is both illegal and a total breach of his existing contract with our record Label, ‘Five Star Music Label’.

Notwithstanding what propaganda he feeds the public, we further advice that proper verifications are made from us, as there is no iota of truth emanating therefrom.
